About The Founder
Leah Tolbert
The Little Griot Project was founded by Leah Tolbert, a child and adolescent advocate turned storyteller, entrepreneur, and community-builder. With over two decades of experience working with children, families, and youth in crisis, Leah has always believed in the transformative power of story; not just as a tool for healing, but as a pathway to self-worth and empowerment.
Her journey spans roles as a therapist, counselor, nonprofit leader, and entrepreneur in the wellness and creative space. Across every chapter, one truth has remained constant: stories shape who we are and who we become.
Inspired by the griot tradition of West Africa, storytellers who carry the history and heart of their communities, Leah created The Little Griot Project to ensure that every child has the chance to see themselves reflected in books, to find their voice in writing, and to know that their story matters.
